Remembering Sharon

I've looked at life from both sides now . . .

Sharon Patrice Davis's Funeral was spectacularly unordinary! I was touched by how many people were "networking" in the tradition of my dearly departed friend. . . My friends, Lynette + Rodney, Lauren (brought 2 dozen yellow roses and a ton of soda and h'orsdeurves) Cassandra, Lawrence (accompanied several people on the keyboards, Carol + Roland and their son and daughter and I organized the photos for a slide show and a huge poster board-see on left}) Bernadette + Scott, Al Johnson + Barbara, Michael Bradley, Oggie, ( touchingly sang an original tribute he composed), David Innis, Christine Norman, my honey, Bobby and our daughters, all surrounded Sharon with love and bubbles (Cassandra blew bubbles at the graveside . . . we all knew she was smiling down on us) amidst several other of Sharon's dearest friends (a huge crew of Music and Art cronies, including the host of the Re-passe, Freddie Barber also the M+A Class of 1979 and Pedro Bell, (the visual artist who did all of the albums for George Clinton and the Funkadelics) and many of her relatives.
Bernadette, had Lawrence and I laughing whimsically when she asked "Remember the night Sharon and Monique met in Boston?" She continued, "Fireworks exploded!, literally and figuratively" as I went toe to toe with the "know it all" Ms. Davis for the very 1st time. I pulled Bernadette to the side and asked her, "Who the hell does this know it all think she is?" Little did I realize at the time that Sharon really did know it all!

I met her mom, Grace, her dad, Prince sister Toya and her brother Craig all for the first time! They lived up to all of the proud acclaim Sharon had bragged about them for years. It was an environment over flowing with constant extremes of emotions; deep heart-felt laughter would quickly erupt into sobs of disbelief (by men and women alike) that Sharon was really physically gone. We all felt her spirit as a constant presence among us. I am blessed to have know her at all. My friend Sharon will always remain in my heart.
